John J. Walsh, 64, of
Donovan Court, Merrimack, New Hampshire, died Friday, March 20, 2015
in his home.
Born in Ipswich, on June 28,
1950, he was the eldest of four children of the late Thomas J. and
Sophie (Aponas) Walsh. After graduating from Ipswich High School in
1968, he attended Northeastern University where he earned a Bachelor
of Science degree in Biology.
Because of his interest in
audio electronics, one of his part time jobs while in college was
making deliveries for K & L Sound, a small stereo store. He
eventually became a salesman there and after graduating college,
joined the company full time. During his fifteen years with the
firm, he became K & L Sound’s Advertising Director and eventually,
Vice President of Sales and Marketing. At the time, K & L Sound was
the largest single outlet consumer electronics store in New England.
In 1998, John moved to New
Hampshire and began working for ControlAir, Inc., a manufacturer of
manual and electronic air regulators. His work centered around sales
and technical support working with engineers to adapt ControlAir’s
products to their requirements.
One of John’s great loves
was music. It began while in high school as a member of the IHS
band. Over the years, he amassed an extensive collection of LPs and
CDs ranging from classical to rap and everything in between. He was
also a voracious reader seldom being seen without a book in his
hand. Another passion of his was basketball. He loved the Celtics
and was a long-time season ticket holder.
He is survived by a sister,
Christine Walsh Mitra of Ipswich; two brothers, James J Walsh of
Ipswich and Michael A. Walsh and his wife, Michelle of Newbury; two
nephews, Thomas and Ryan Walsh and a niece, Sophia Walsh all of
Newbury.
A memorial service will be
held 11 am Saturday, April 11 in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6
High Street, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed.
Interment will be private.
