John C. Saporito

John C. Saporito, 64, beloved husband of Linda M. (Doherty) Saporito , died surrounded by his family on Saturday, May 21, 2011 in the Beth Israel Medical Center, Boston, following his sudden illness.

Born in Newton October 30, 1946 son of the late Aldo and Catherine M. (Coombs) Saporito, he was raised in Lynnfield where he attended Lynnfield High School. He went on to attend and graduate from the Bridgeton Academy, Boston University and Salem State College.

Mr. Saporito served as a paratrooper with the Army 82nd Airborne Division during the years of the Viet Nam War, later  serving for several years with the National Guard.

Married in 1969, the Saporitos made their home and raised their family in Ipswich. He was the owner and operator of John Saporito Insurance in Beverly Farms. In retirement he has worked part time in the food service industry.

John was an avid tennis player who loved the Patriots and the Red Sox. He enjoyed saltwater fishing and long walks with his dogs in the woods and on Cranes Beach. He’ll be remembered by all who knew him for his warm smile and great sense of humor.

He was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Hope Church in Ipswich.

In addition to his wife of forty-two years he is survived by two daughters, Jill Brown and her husband Kelley of Manchester-by-the-Sea and Amy Whynott and her husband David of Ipswich; two grandchildren, Anthony Aldo Brown of Manchester–by-the-Sea and Olivia Rose Whynott of Ipswich; a brother, Steven Saporito of Wenham; a sister, Ann Saporito of Jacksonville, FL and a niece Stephanie Saporito of Weymouth.

His funeral will be held Wednesday May 25, 8 am from the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich, followed by the celebration of a Funeral Mass Wednesday 9 am at Our Lady of Hope Church, Pineswamp Road, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Interment with Army Honors will be in the Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Visiting hours are Tuesday 4 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Ipswich Humane Group, 17 Fowler Lane, Ipswich, MA 01938 and or  Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Avenue, Salem, MA 01970.
