John Gerard MacLennan

John Gerard MacLennan, 70, husband of Kathleen (Wile) MacLennan of Ipswich, died June 7, 2019 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following his brief illness.

Born August 20, 1948 in Boston, he was the son of the late John A. D. and Marjorie (Kelley) MacLennan. He was raised in Winthrop and attended St John the Evangelist grammar school and was a graduate of Boston College High School. He continued his education at Salem State College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. At Salem, he met his future wife Kathleen. Following graduation, he was employed at Kemper Insurance as an appraiser in the Auto Claims Division. When Kemper formed a new company, Arbella Mutual Foundation, he remained on board until his retirement four years ago, leaving as a business analyst.

Jack had many interests – cars, reading, genealogy, and music of all types, from Irish folk to hard rock to country. He was a diehard Patriots fan and had attended many games back in the early years at Nickerson Field. He loved technology of all types, his laptop, his kindle, his cell phone and his iPad. His greatest love was his family.

In addition to his wife Kathy as they approached fifty years of marriage, he is survived by their sons, Geoffrey MacLennan of Ipswich, Kevin MacLennan and his wife Nicole of Westborough, and Neal MacLennan of Danvers, and grandchildren Finn and Callum of Ipswich and twins Kiera and Liam of Westborough. He is also survived by sisters Marjorie O’Connell and her husband Robert of Brighton, and Marilyn Cooper and her husband Shel of Holliston, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

His funeral service will be held 11 am Thursday June 13 in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich. Family and friends are cordially welcomed. Visiting hours will be Wednesday 5 to 8pm. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the WEEI Jimmy Fund Radio Telethon, presented by the Arabella Mutual Foundation, (www.danafarber.jimmyfund.org) which happens to occur this year on Jack’s birthday.
