John E. Castino

John E. Castino, 88, husband of Cheryl A. (Young) Castino of Dix Road, Ipswich, died Thursday evening December 13, 2018 in the Masconomet Healthcare and Rehab in Topsfield following his long illness.
Born in New York City October 8, 1930, he was the only child of the late Emil J. and Albertina (Toz) Castino. He was raised in the Bronx and was a graduate of the Aviation Trade High School in Manhattan. He enlisted in the US Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. In 1950 he married the late Rose (Zulch) and they made their home in the Bronx. Following her death in 1967 he married the late Marie (Feldman) who also predeceased him. For twenty-seven years he was employed as a machinist at Kollsman Instrument in Long Island, New York. Most recently he was the owner and operator of Spruce Manor in Gloucester, from which he retired in 1988. He was an active member of the Clipper City Corvette Club, meeting his wife Cheryl through their mutual interest in Corvettes. He was also an accomplished amateur photographer.
In addition to his wife of twenty-four years he is survived by his son, John Castino and his wife Karen of Beverly, a daughter, Lisa Mooney and her husband Dale of Newmarket, NH, five grandchildren, Cara (Farnell) Monaco of WA, Shaina Mishkin of NY, Juliana Mishkin of Waltham, Brandon and Aaron Mooney, both of Newmarket, and son-in-law Harvey Mishkin of NJ. He was the father of the late Evelyn Mishkin formerly of NJ, Cathy Farnell of Salem, and Virginia Castino of NY, and grandfather of the late Nicholas Castino formerly of Beverly.
His funeral service will be held Tuesday December 18, 11am in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich, followed interment with Military Honors in the New Highland Cemetery, Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours will be held Monday 5 to 8 pm. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in his name to the Salvation Army, 40 Water Street, Newburyport, MA 01950.
