John F. “Jack” Benedix

John F. “Jack” Benedix, 87, husband Ann M. (Hull) Benedix of Newmarch Street, Ipswich, died Monday, June 12, 2017 in the Curahealth Boston North Shore in Peabody following his brief illness.

Born October 1, 1929 in Ipswich, the only child of the late Franklin and Cora (Benedix) Hulbert, he was the foster son of his aunt and uncle Vera and George Benedix.  Raised in Ipswich, Jack was  a 1947 graduate of Ipswich High School where he earned letters in football, basketball and baseball. He went on to attend both Bates College and Stratford Business School. Drafted into the Army during the Korean War, he graduated from OCS and was commissioned a second lieutenant and served in Germany.  In 1956 he was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant. The Benedixs were married in 1951 and in 1956 made Ipswich their home where they raised their family. He was employed as a Field Manager for IBM and retired in 1987 after thirty-one years of service. For fifteen years he worked at Sports Stop in Wenham,  retiring in 2002.  Jack was an avid golfer, hiker, and alpine skier.  He and his wife Ann loved to travel, touring by bus throughout the United States and Europe and cruising the Caribbean.  He was one of the original members of the former Barrelstavers Ski Club, a former member of the Ipswich Lions Club, the Bass River Club and later the Manchester Tennis Club, and a life member of the Ascension Memorial Church where he had served on the building committee.

In addition to his wife Ann of sixty-five years he is survived by a son, John David Benedix of Ipswich, a daughter, Cori A. Kingsley and her husband Mark of Exeter, NH, and three grandchildren, Daniel C. Benedix of VA, Brandon W. Kingsley of FL and  Nathan B. Kingsley of Exeter, NH.

His funeral Service will be held 11 am Saturday, June 17 in the Ascension Memorial Church, 31 County Street, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Burial with Military Honors was private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich.
