Joan Clifton Walsh, 84, long
time resident of Boxford, died Saturday February 9, 2013 in the
Seaview Retreat in Rowley following her extended illness.
Born in Cambridge February
20, 1928, she was the daughter of the late William and Ella May
(Gillis) Walsh. She was a graduate of Topsfield High School and the
Forsyth Dental Institute where she graduated in 1948. Joan was
employed as the dental hygienist at Philips Academy in Andover for
over forty years, and also worked at the Crane Beach Store at the
Crane Memorial Reservation in Ipswich for over forty years, retiring
as the assistant manager in 2003. She was a member of the Baha’i
Faith and traveled to many Baha’i sites including the North American
Baha’i House of Worship in Wilmette, Illinois. A kind and happy
person who was fun to be with, throughout her life she shared her
sense of humor with everyone she met. She loved to travel around the
New England states and enjoyed lunches at the Mount Washington Hotel
and the Balsams Resort in Dixville Notch, NH. She had also traveled
to California and Florida.
Joan leaves many good
friends in Ipswich including her long time friend and companion for
many years Bill Cruikshank, as well as Bob Chambers, Anna Marini,
Jane Hinkley and the Hinkley family and many others, also many good
friends in Boxford and around the country. She is also survived a
brother, William Walsh of Atkinson, NH and many nieces and nephews.
Joan was predeceased by two sisters, Natalie Curtis of West Boxford
and Marjorie Walsh of Boxford.
Her funeral
service will be held Thursday February 14 at 11am in the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich, followed by
interment in the Southside Cemetery, Ipswich. Family and friends are
respectfully welcomed. Visitation will precede the service from 10
to 11 am.
