Jean F. (Sullivan) Knowlton

Jean F. Knowlton, 72, formerly of Market Street, Ipswich, died Saturday,
December 12, 2020 at Care One Essex Park in Beverly following her long
illness. She was the longtime companion of the late James A. “Jimmie” Dort
who died in November of 2018.
Jean was born in Newburyport on February 9, 1948, one of the two children
of the late Robert T. and Dorothy G. (O’Neil) Sullivan. She was raised in
Newburyport and was a 1966 graduate of Newburyport High School. She went
on to attend a two-year program at Bridgewater State College.
For many years she was employed as a bookkeeper and bartender at the
AMVETS Club in Ipswich. She and Jim were very avid sports fans making Red
Sox spring training in Tampa their annual vacation. Jean was a very active
supporter and volunteer of various local veteran’s organizations. She will
be remembered for her love of cooking and planning for holiday events.
Jean is survived by a son, Joshua M. Knowlton of Chelmsford; her former
husband, Mark E. Knowlton of Florida; extended family and many friends. In
addition to her parents and companion James she was predeceased by a
brother, the late Ronald Sullivanformerly of Newburyport.
A private funeral service will be held graveside in St. Mary’s Cemetery,
Newburyport. Arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter
Funeral Home of Ipswich. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her
name may be made to AMVETS, 4647 Forbes Blvd. Lanham, MD 20706.
