Jean McKay Cleveland

Jean McKay Cleveland, 95, of Gloucester, formerly
of Ipswich and Hamilton, passed away peacefully at Seacoast Nursing Home
on March 23, 2019 following a brief illness.
Jean was born to the late William and Ivy
(Lyons) McKay in Beverly on November 12, 1923, and raised in Beverly Cove.
She
attended Abbot Academy in Andover and Wheaton College. Many in her life
knew her kindness and generosity.
Her parents
instilled in Jean and her sisters a sense of adventure as they took a
Steamer across the Atlantic to Scotland in the 1930’s to follow their
family roots in Scotland. This spirit was shared with her children by
introducing them to skiing, camping and Mountaineering in the White
Mountains, where they both excelled, which brought her great pleasure.
Jean asked that a formal service be waived, perhaps so she needn't tarry
too long before her finishing her sweet journey Home.
Her surviving family include son, William Cleveland
of Tamworth, NH; grandson William Cleveland of Conway, NH and their
extended families in NH, as well as nephews Richard Libby and Scott Libby
and their families in MA. She was predeceased by her son Jay Cleveland.
Her funeral service will be held graveside 11 am Wednesday March 27 in the
Hamilton Cemetery, Hamilton. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home
of Ipswich.
