James J. Guay

James J. Guay, 52, of Linebrook Road, Ipswich, husband of Patricia (Ryan) Guay, died December 26, 2013 at Tufts Medical Center, Boston. 

Born in Boston, April 30, 1961 he was the son of E. Joseph Guay and Mary A. (Donohue) Guay, of Ipswich.  He was predeceased by his first wife, Kathy A. (Gillis) Guay.  He was raised in Ipswich and graduated from Ipswich High School in 1979.  In 1986, he graduated from Salem State College, earning a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts.  He had been employed as a graphic artist at North Shore Weeklies and finished his career at AGFA.  Jim was an avid reader.  He was a talented artist who enjoyed drawing and painting, playing his guitar, writing stories and was a loyal Boston sports enthusiast cheering for the Red Sox, Bruins and Patriots.  

In addition to his parents and his wife, Patty, he is survived by two sons, Andrew R. Guay of Ipswich and Ryan J.D. Guay of Boxford; one daughter, Katherine M. Guay of Ipswich; two brothers, Andrew Guay of East Hampstead, NH and Christopher Guay of Danvers; two sisters, Maryanne (Guay) Weiss of Newton and Kathleen Guay of Ipswich; aunts, Diane (Guay) Russell of Amherst,  Catherine (Donohue) Pratt of CO, Eileen Donohue of Littleton, and Patricia (Donohue) Zani of HI and many nephews and nieces He is also survived by two step-children, Sean P. Ryan of Ipswich and Kelly (Ryan) Boyd of Old Orchard Beach, ME  and his faithful canine companion, Zoe.

Visiting hours will be held on  4 to 8 pm Saturday, January 4  in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich.  Family and friends are respectfully welcomed.  A private burial service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to benefit his children: James J. Guay Family Trust, c/o  First Ipswich Bank, 31 Market St., Ipswich, MA  01938.
