James M. Barney, 60, of Ipswich, formerly of Hamilton, and
husband of Carolyn “Bonnie” (Brown) Barney, died Monday
November 26, 2007.
He was the son of the Edna (Sprague) Barney of Hamilton and
the late George H. Barney. He was a graduate of Hamilton
Wenham High School and Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine,
where he continued to serve as his class secretary.
In recent years, Jim worked in property management. He was
also the past president of the Ipswich Savings Bank.
Devoted to his family, he enjoyed gardening and farming, and
had many years of service to the Ipswich community. Among
the many activities he was involved with were: the Boy
Scouts; the Rotary Club; the House of Peace; the Ipswich Bay
Yacht Club; and the First Congregational Church of Ipswich.
Currently, Jim was serving as a Deacon for the First
Congregational Church of Hamilton.
In addition to his mother and wife of 37 years, he is
survived by a son, Mason Barney and his wife Jaclyn of New
York City; a daughter, Caroline Barney of Beverly; a sister,
Ann Barney of Hamilton; a brother, Hillman Barney of
Ipswich, and many nieces and nephews including Amanda Barney
of Ipswich.
His funeral service will be held Thursday, November 29, 2007
11 am in the First Congregational Church of Hamilton,
followed by interment in the Hamilton Cemetery. Family and
friends are welcomed. Visiting hours are Wednesday 4 to 8 PM
in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich.
