Irene L. Schofield

Irene L. Schofield, 62, of Worcester Road, Framingham, died in her home on Tuesday, September 17, 2019.

Born in Belleville, IL on October 8, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Air Force veteran  Lee W. Schofield, Jr. and the late Patricia A. (Murphy) Schofield. Irene was raised in Ipswich, a 1975 graduate of Whittier Vocational Technical School. She went on to serve three  years in the U.S. Army Special Forces  stationed in Shape, Belgium.  Following her honorable discharge she went to work  for NASA at the Kennedy Space Center, part of the first Space Shuttle mission,  as a communication technician. She later went on to work  for several years on the Army “Star Wars” program in Colorado.

Irene  became very active in serving homeless and disabled veterans. She volunteered  countless hours and days at the Veterans Hospital in Bedford and will forever be remembered for her open door for her fellow homeless and disabled veterans.

In her own time she enjoyed the peace of her home crafts and playing her guitar.

She is survived by a son, Anthony W. Lynch of Framingham; a brother, Lee W. Schofield III of Rowley; three sisters Sharon L. Schofield of Boxford, Tracey Beaupre of Byfield, Eileen M. Collins of Haverhill, Eva M. Schofield- Bishop of Strafford, NH; three nephews; three nieces and special friend Mike Mulcahy of Framingham.  

Her funeral service with Military Honors will be held 11 am Thursday, September 26 in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours are Wednesday 5 to 8 pm.
