G. Irene (Carroll) Bowman

 

G. Irene (Carroll) Bowman, 89, formerly of Chebacco Terrace, Essex and wife of the late William F. Bowman, died Tuesday, January 6, 2015 in the Twin Oaks Rehabilitation Center, Danvers, following her long illness.

Born in Gloucester January 23, 1925 daughter of the late Matthew J. and Amelia G. (Braga) Carroll,   Irene was a 1943 graduate of Gloucester High School.  She lived in Essex most of her life retiring to Merland, Nova Scotia in 1970. She returned to Essex in 1990 upon the death of her husband. Irene was a member of the Friends of the Council on Aging and enjoyed taking trips with her many friends there.

 She is survived by two sons, Robert L. Carter and his wife Susan of Berlin, NH, Donald J. Carter and his wife Kathy of S. Hamilton; four grandchildren, Sandra Fryswick of PA and Thomas Carter of NH, Devin Trabucco of Medford, Quinn Rami of Danvers; seven great grandchildren and a brother Daniel Carroll of CA.  She was predeceased by her brothers, James, Joseph, and Robert Carroll and sisters, Florence Carpenter, Anna Lane and Jeanne Aiello.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated  at 10 am, Friday, January 9, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Main St., Essex. Interment will follow  in the Spring Street Cemetery, Essex. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Essex Senior Center, 17 Pickering St., Essex, MA 01929.
