Hubert Paul Tougas


Hubert Paul Tougas “Herb/Papa”, 93, husband of June A. (Hall) Tougas of Topsfield Road, Ipswich, died suddenly on Friday, May 24, 2019 at Beverly Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born at home in Ipswich on June 21, 1925, he was the last survivor of eleven children of the late George and Henrietta (Poirier) Tougas.

Herb was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church, the John T Heard Lodge, The Aleppo Shriners, and had been a member of many local committees. He loved spending time with his family and friends, always saw the positive side in every situation, and had a little joke to make your day.

In addition to his wife June, the love of his life for sixty-six years, he is survived by a son, Gary Tougas and his wife Jan; three daughters, Robin Mills and her husband Brad, Kathy MacWhinnie and her husband Rick, and Lauri Carlson and her husband Keith; nine grandchildren, Courtney, Natalie, Stephanie, Jennifer, Eric, Sarah, Amy, Emily and Jessica; and twelve great-grandchildren with one on the way. He was the brother of the late Louise, Irene, Eva, Amedee, Lionel, John, Edmund, Alfred, Richard, and Noella, and son in law of the late Wilmot and Esther Hall.

His funeral service will be held 11 am Wednesday May 29 in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich, followed by interment in the New Highland Cemetery, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours will be Tuesday 4:30 to 7:00 with a Masonic Service by the John T. Heard Lodge at 6 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, 45 Central Street, Ipswich, MA 01938.
