Gloria A. (Groh) Scholomite

Gloria A. (Groh) Scholomite, 90, of Caroline Avenue, Ipswich, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 30, 2014 in her home, surrounded in her bedside by her children and loved ones. She was the wife of the late Nicholas Scholomite  who died in 1988.

Gloria was born in Newark, NJ, August 25, 1924 and  was raised, married, and began her family in East Orange, NJ. As a single mom she relocated and raised her family in Belmar NJ from 1956-1968. She began her career as a legal secretary in Asbury Park, NJ in 1960, where she met her husband Nick who she married in 1966, and continued that career in Lakewood, NJ until 1986.  In  1968 she and her husband Nick made Toms River, NJ their home.   

After a debilitating stroke, she relocated to Ipswich where she has lived for the past twenty-six years.

 She was known for her fiery red hair, great cooking, and feisty personality.

Mrs. Scholomite is survived by a large loving family: her three sons, John A. Viggiano and his wife Jaye (Pressey) of Point Pleasant, NJ, Michael A. Viggiano and his wife Debi(Pressey) of South Hamilton, MA, Christopher A. Viggiano and his wife Nancy(O'Bryan) of Valley Stream, NY; her daughter, Donna M. Keeney, wife of the late William Keeney of Pine Beach, NJ; and thirteen wonderful grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

She will be laid to rest Saturday, September 6 in the St. George Greek Orthodox Cemetery, Neptune, NJ. Arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, Ipswich, MA.
