Gertrude H. Stone

Gertrude H. Stone, 91, of John Wise Avenue, Essex, died Wednesday, September 4, 2019 in the Kaplan Family Hospice, Danvers following her brief illness. She was the wife of the late Martin C. Stone who died in 2008 and wife of the late Ernest Doucette who died in 1961.

Born in Essex on January 20, 1928, she was the daughter of the late James and Lillian (Singer) O’Brien.  She was raised in Essex and was a graduate of Gloucester High School with the Class of 1946.

Over the years she had enjoyed herself bowling, snowmobiling, camping in New Hampshire and baking and knitting for her family and friends.

Gertrude will be remembered for her positive attitude and mild manner.

She was a longtime communicant of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Essex, a member of the Catholic Woman’s Club and the Herbert Goodhue AMVETS Auxiliary.

She is survived by six sons and two daughters, Ernest Doucette of Essex,  Barry Doucette and his wife Donna of Gloucester,  Gary Stone of CA,  Lee Anne Doucette of Gloucester,  Marlene K. Hulbert and her husband Chuck of Ipswich,  Scott Doucette and his wife Sonja of Gloucester,  Kendall Stone of Essex,  Daniel Doucette and his wife Jackie of Essex; sixteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. She was the sister of the late James O’Brien, Jr.  formerly of Gloucester, Helen Lane formerly of Essex and  Katherine Shemet formerly of FL.

Visiting hours will be held 10 am to noon on Saturday, September 7 in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich, with her funeral service held at noon followed by interment in the Spring Street Cemetery, Essex.
