Gertrude
J. (Buturla) Emery, 84, of Town Farm Road, died Sunday, July 7, 2013
in her home following her sudden illness. She was the wife of the
late Thomas B. Emery who died in 1987.
Born in
Ipswich December 3, 1928 daughter of the late Augustus J. and
Victoria M. (Karol) Buturla, she was raised in Ipswich, a 1946
graduate of the former Whipple High School. Married 1960 in the
former Sacred Heart Church of Ipswich, the Emerys made their homes n
Alaska, Ohio, California, North Dakota, North Carolina, Montana and
in 1965 returning to and settling in Ipswich. In addition to raising
her family Mrs. Emery was employed as the first cook and manager at
Caroline Avenue Food Services, Ipswich for twenty years until her
retirement.
She is
survived by three sons, Thomas B. Emery and his wife Juana of
Beverly, John E. Emery and his wife Mischo of Okinawa, Japan, James
C. Emery of Wakefield; four grandchildren, Tamara and Christopher
Emery both of Beverly, Kana and Nana Emery both of Okinawa; a nephew
John Los, Jr. of Schenectady, NY; a niece Virginia Wescott of
Beverly; seven great nephews and nieces. She was the sister of the
late Anna Los, Stella Buturla, Anthony Buturla and infant Victor Buturla
all formerly of Ipswich.
Her
funeral service will be held 10 am, Saturday July 13 in the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich, followed by
interment in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Ipswich. Family and
friends are respectfully welcomed. An hour of visitation will
precede the service Saturday from 9 am to 10 am. In lieu of flowers
memorial contributions in her name may be made to a charity of one’s
choice.
