Geraldine J. (Day) Bodwell

Geraldine J. (Day) Bodwell, 84, loving wife of James E. Bodwell of Edge Street, died Saturday, July 9, 2016 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers following her long illness.  

Born in Gloucester February 11, 1932, daughter of the late Frederick M. and Margaret (Penney) Day, she was raised in Gloucester where she attended public schools. Married on July 3, 1953 the Bodwells raised their family from their home on Appleton Park.      

Mrs. Bodwell enjoyed traveling, music, and dancing. The most important part of her life was her loving family. She enjoyed going to and being a part of her grandchildren's many activities.

In addition to her husband of sixty-three years she is survived by a daughter Diana L. Taylor of Ipswich and son James E. Bodwell, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Ipswich and four grandchildren, James Bodwell, III and his wife Brittany and their two sons Kendall and Kellan all of Royal Palm Beach, FL, Matthew Taylor of Ipswich, Allison Papaefthemiou and her husband Sam and children Kaiden and Lilliana of Haverhill, and Ryan Taylor and his wife Jessica Cook of Ipswich. She is also survived by her sister Emma Shea of Gloucester and many nephews and nieces. She was the mother-in-law of the late Myron Taylor formerly of Ipswich and the youngest sister of the late Frederick Day formerly of Gloucester, Margaret McGrath and Dorothy Rizzotti both formerly of Essex and Kathleen Surette formerly of Rockport.

Visiting hours are Tuesday 4 to 7 pm in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Interment in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Ipswich will be private.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her name may be made to Ipswich Caring Inc. c/o First Ipswich Bank, 31 Market Street, Ipswich, MA 01938.
