Georgianna B.“Georgie” Tofuri
Georgianna B.“Georgie” Tofuri, 97, wife of the late Pasquale “Patsy”
Tofuri, died peacefully on July 13, 2012 in Vero Beach, Florida,
where for the past nine years she resided with her daughter, Judith
Georgianna was born on October 6, 1914 in Winchester, to Benjamin
and Catherine (Nutile) Todesca. She was educated in the local
schools and graduated from Winchester High School in 1932 with her
classmate and eventual spouse Pat Tofuri. When he left for the
University of Notre Dame, they began a correspondence that grew into
love and a marriage that lasted sixty-four years. They resided in
Winchester for thirty-four of those years, raising three daughters.
Georgie devoted her life to her children and her home. She helped
with their Brownie troops, sewed special occasion dresses for them,
cooked plentiful meals and assisted with various activities as the
girls went through school. She worked for many years as a ward clerk
at Winchester Hospital where she was appreciated for her pleasant
manner, dependability and strong work ethic. She and Pat were
communicants of St. Mary’s Parish where she was a member of that
Pat and Georgie had a summer home on Great Neck in Ipswich, and they
retired there in 1975. North Ridge Road in Ipswich remained their
home for the next twenty-eight years. During that time, she was a
communicant of St. Joseph’s (later Our Lady of Hope) and a member of
that parish's Catholic Women’s Club, the Ipswich Women's Club and
volunteered at the Ipswich Public Library.
Georgie was a quiet and gentle woman who truly enjoyed being with
her family and was much loved by the extended and immediate family
that she doted on, especially her grandchildren who knew that
Grammie was always in their corner.
She is pre-deceased by her husband and six of her seven siblings:
Helen Bachieri, Florence Romano, Emily Quintiliani, Kay Romano,
Anita Kerrigan, and Benjamin Todesca and her son-in-law, Francis
Shottes. She is survived by her sister Palma Russell, her daughters
Ann O’Brien and spouse Richard of Ipswich, Patti Bicknell and spouse
Brian of Yarmouth, Maine and Judy Shottes of Vero Beach, her
grandchildren Sheila O'Brien and spouse Edward Dingman of Nanuet,
New York, Richard O’Brien and spouse Tracy of Ipswich, Christine
Bicknell Marden and spouse Rob Marden of Sidney, Maine, Deborah
Bicknell of Portland, Maine,Lauren Bicknell of Yarmouth, Maine, Beth
Ratliff and spouse Duane of Vero Beach, and great-grandchildren Adam
and James Dingman, Christian and Jaclyn O’Brien, Ruby and Max Marden,
Benjamin and Abigail Ratliff and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Georgie’s loyal cadre of caregivers for
their kindness and genuine loving concern: Serena Nadolny and her
daughter, Alex, Tracy Henkel, Paula Hawkins, Marie Ciaccio, Teresa
Perez, Elaine Hogarty and Victoria Meneses. Thanks, too, to Rosemary
Hartmann and Alex Clemente of Holy Cross Parish for bringing
communion and for sharing in her life. Georgiana's family is also
grateful to the Nightingale CNAs and the staff of VNA Hospice of
Vero Beach for their care, encouragement and loving support.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 18 at 11:00 a.m.
at the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich followed
by interment in the New Highland Cemetery, Ipswich. Family and
friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours are Tuesday
evening, July 17 from 5 to 8.
A memorial Mass will be held in Vero Beach, FL at a later date. In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Georgie’s name to VNA
