Gardner L.
Stone, 80, of Oak Hill Apartments, Ipswich, passed away at his
home peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, November 24, 2015. He
was the husband of the late Judith A .(Downs) Stone who passed
away in 1998.
A lifelong
Ipswich resident he was born in Ipswich August 15, 1935, son of
the late Chester L. and Ruby M. (Earley) Stone, and was a 1953
graduate of Ipswich public schools.
Married in 1963
the Stones made their home on East Street where they raised
their family and where he lived until his move to Oak Hill in
2005.
Mr. Stone was
employed for over twenty years as a teller at the First National
Bank in Ipswich. Following this employment he went to work for
Brox Industries in Hudson, NH where he was employed as a weigh
master until his retirement in 2000.
He enjoyed golf,
the game and his time spent with his friends at the clubhouse.
He will be remembered by his family and friends as an avid
follower of all sports.
Mr. Stone was a
lifelong member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Ipswich.
He is survived
by a son, Scott A. Stone and his wife Sheila of Rowley; a
daughter, Shirley A. Savory and her husband Rob of Salem, NH;
five grandchildren, Tara, Samantha, Ricky and Daniel Savory all
of NH, Christopher Savory of TX; two great grandchildren, Trevin
and Camrin Dickson of NH. He is also survived by five sisters,
Eleanor Peatfield of Newburyport, Charlotte Teshko of Hamilton,
Marlene Shannon of Ipswich, Grace Cullen of Amesbury, Patricia
Simons of Hampton, NH and many nephews and nieces. He was the
brother of the late Norman, Chester and Donald Stone all
formerly of Ipswich.
His funeral
Service will be held 10 am Saturday in the Immanuel Baptist
Church 45 Central Street, Ipswich followed by interment in the
Highland Cemetery, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully
welcomed. Visiting hours are Friday 5 to 8 pm in the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich.
