Eva E. (Karmeris) Pechilis

Eva E. (Karmeris) Pechilis, 84,  of Allen Lane, Ipswich, wife of the late John A. Pechilis, died Thursday, July 21, 2011 in the Beverly Hospital.

Born in New York City on May 31, 1927, daughter of the late Louis and Mary (Georgeopoulos) Karmeris, she moved to Ipswich as a young girl and was educated in the Ipswich schools.  A 1945 graduate of Ipswich High School, she attended Burdette College and worked as a legal secretary until her marriage in 1949.

Mrs. Pechilis was a devoted wife and mother, always willing to put family first.  She was also instrumental in assisting the family’s businesses as a secretary and bookkeeper for nearly forty years.  Upon their retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Pechilis enjoyed their winters in Naples, Florida, golfing, playing bridge, and socializing with their many friends.

She is survived by three sons; Arthur Pechilis and his wife Karen of Seabrook, NH, and William Pechilis  and Lee Pechilis both of Ipswich; six grandchildren, Tyrus Pechilis, Eric Pechilis, Nicole Pechilis, and Christian Pechilis all of Ipswich, Johanna Pechilis of  Burlington, and Jason Pechilis of Topsfield; her great-granddaughter Amara Pechilis and a sister  Ann Diakun of Vernon, CT.  She was the sister of the late Katherine Quigley formerly of Beverly.

Her funeral service will be held at 10 AM  Monday, July 25, in the Greek Orthodox Church,  Lafayette Road, Ipswich, followed by interment in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery in Ipswich.  Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. There will be no visiting  hours.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich. Memorial contributions may be made to the Greek Orthodox Church, P.O. Box 6, Ipswich, MA, 01938.
