Erna “Micki” Hughes, 84, of Fowlers Lane, Ipswich,
died Thursday, April 11, 2019 in her home following her brief illness.
Born in Boston on June 7, 1934, she was the only
child of the late Harry W. and Vera E. (Carlson) Butman. She was raised in
Beverly and was a 1952 graduate of Beverly High School. In 1976 she
graduated from Whittier Vocational Tech as a medical assistant.
fourteen years she was employed as a medical assistant with North Shore
Comprehensive Care of Beverly.
For several years she was employed in
patient financial services at Beverly Hospital, Woman’s Health Care in
West Newbury and in retirement she worked as an insurance processor for
Bernard Sullivan insurance of Ipswich.
Micki was avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. She was a
member of the Ascension Memorial Church in Ipswich, Ipswich Council on
Aging and in the early 70’s, a member of the Soffron’s Bowling League. For
many years she practiced yoga and for all these years she loved her cats.
She is survived by two sons, Guy R. Hughes of
Sanbornville, NH, Chris A. Hughes of Ipswich; two daughters, Sharon L.
Hulbert and her husband Douglas of Ipswich, Lynne A. Stevens and her
husband Gary of Franklin; six grandchildren, Jennifer Fowler, Amy Hulbert,
Derrick Stevens, Stephanie Stevens, Amber Wynne, Dan Durgin and four great
grandchildren, Robert Stevens and
Stevens and Rory and Cole Wynne. She was the mother of the late infant
Michael Hughes and grandmother of the late Shelby Hughes formerly of
Her funeral service will be held at noon on Friday, April 19 graveside in
the New Highland Cemetery, Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Family and friends are
cordially welcomed. Arrangements are under the direction of the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich. In lieu of flowers memorial
