Elaine Louise Spang

Elaine Louise Spang, 71, a longtime resident of Ipswich, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2022 after a brief illness with her loving family at her side. She will be remembered as a wonderful daughter, sister, mother, aunt and friend, who never turned down an opportunity to spend time at the beach and was always surrounded by her loving animals. Elaine was truly one-of-a-kind and will be dearly missed.

Elaine was born in Buffalo, New York on April 26, 1951 to the late John H. Spang and Helen L. (Riley) Spang. After graduating from St. Mary Girls High School in Greenwich, Connecticut in 1969, Elaine attended Merrimack College in North Andover. There she met her future husband Philip M. DiPietro and in 1976 they were married at St. Eulalia Church in Winchester. She earned a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) designation from Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

She is survived by her sons Daniel A. DiPietro and his wife Torrey of Wellesley, Michael J. DiPietro of Ipswich; three grandchildren, Lyla, Quinn and Ryder DiPietro; a brother John H. Spang and his wife Jacqueline of Old Greenwich, CT; her stepmother-in-law, May DiPietro Futrell of Newburyport; and several nieces and extended family. Elaine was pre-deceased by her former husband, Philip M. DiPietro.

A celebration of her life is planned for all family and friends on April 29, 2023 in Ipswich, with details to be provided as that date approaches. Arrangements by the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich. Remembrances can be made to Massachusetts Humane Society or to a charity of one’s choosing.
