Eileen M. (Seaward) Smolenski, 90, formerly longtime of Mile Lane,
Ipswich and wife of the late Stanley J. Smolenski, died Thursday
January 30, 2008 in the Beverly Hospital following her long illness.
Born April 4, 1917 in Beverly, daughter of the late Philip and
Marion (Williams) Seaward she was raised in Beverly and was a 1935
graduate of Beverly High School. Following graduation she went to
work as an officer manger at United Shoe in Beverly where she was
employed until her marriage in 1943. Married in New York City, the
Smolenskis made their home on Linebrook Road moving in 1950 to the
house they built on Mile Lane. After raising her family she
returned to work at Sylvania in Ipswich and later worked at Varian
in Beverly until her retirement in 1978.
She
loved music,singing and playing the piano.
She
was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Ipswich
where she was a member of the church’s Woman’s Guild. She also
belonged to the Ipswich Golden Age Club and sang with their Golden
Strands.
She
is survived by a son, Stanley P. Smolenski of Bridgewater, NH; a
daughter Marcia A. Potter and her longtime companion Paul Sanborn of
Ipswich; four grandchildren, Kerri LaRochelle and Nicole Potter both
of Ipswich, Richard Smoelnski of Lebanon, NH, Ella Bowles of Loudon,
NH; five great grandchildren, Adria, Annabelle, Lily, Mia, Kelsey,
and a nephew Paul Seaward of Wenham. She was the sister of the late
Philip Seaward formerly of Wenham.
Her
family wishes to thank the staff of the Caldwell Home for their
continued support and compassion during her seven years residence.
Her
funeral will be held 11 am Saturday, Feb. 9, graveside in the Locust
Grove Cemetery, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully
welcomed. Arrangements are under the direction of the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich. In lieu of flowers memorial
contributions in her name may be made to Caldwell Nursing Home
Activities Dept., 16 Green St., Ipswich, MA 01938.
