Edward C. Szymeczko, 85, formerly longtime of Ipswich, died
Wednesday, March 9, 2016 in the VA Boston Healthcare Center,
Brockton following his long illness.
Born in Ipswich, May 29, 1930, son of the late Felix T. And
Pauline (Blinko) Szymeczko, he was a graduate of Ipswich High
School and Boston University with a Masters in aeronautical
engineering. He served three years with the U.S. Army, serving
in Korea during the height of the conflict. Following his
honorable discharge he went to work as an engineer for Sikorsky
Aircraft in CT. Ed will be remembered by many for the auto
repair garage he owned and operated on Kimball Street in
Ipswich.
He was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed the Patriots, horses and
bowling, a proud winner of many trophies in local tournaments.
He is survived by a sister, Mary R. Green of Georgetown and
several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two brothers
and four sisters.
His funeral will be held 10 am Tuesday, March 14 from the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich, followed
by the celebration of a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11
am in Our Lady of Hope Church, Linebrook Road, Ipswich.
Interment with Military Honors will be in the Cowles Memorial
Cemetery, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed.
Visiting hours are 4 to 7 pm Monday.
