Beloved Husband, Loving Father, Devoted Grandfather & Great Grandfather, Big Brother, Faithful Friend

Edward Paul Sklarz, a lifelong resident of Ipswich, died peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, on Saturday, February 13, 2021. He was the husband of the late Janet Sklarz with whom he shared sixty-four years of marriage.

Born in Ipswich, on January 15, 1935, Edward was the son of the late Alexander and Pauline (Sucharski) Sklarz. Raised in Ipswich, Edward was a graduate of Ipswich High School, Class of 1953.  During High School he received 4-year varsity letters for baseball, basketball, and football, was a 4-year honor roll student and class president. In high school, he also played for Marblehead semi-pro baseball team. At the end of High school, he was drafted by the New York Yankees minor league and declined to instead accepted a four year athletic and academic scholarship at Tuffs University School of Engineering where he continued to play baseball. Upon graduation he joined the Gillette Company for thirty-one years as a Manager of Facilities Engineering.  After retirement he became active in the town, joining the electric subcommittee and attending many Board of Selectmen meetings. He also enjoyed being part of his grandchildren’s lives while coaching or watching their sports. He was honored to be inducted into Ipswich High School Hall of Fame in 2012 for both baseball and basketball. In 1956 Edward married his high school sweetheart Janet (Erickson) Sklarz, and together they had eight children.

Edward is survived by his seven children, Jeffery Sklarz and his wife, Maura, of Barrington, RI, Kathy Lampropoulos and her husband, Harry, of Ipswich, Timothy Sklarz of Ipswich, Stephanie Reedy and her husband, Chris, of Ipswich, Diane Barrows, and her husband Jim of Ipswich, Chris Sklarz of San Francisco CA, and Eric Sklarz, of Portland OR.  His son, Stephen, died in infancy. He also leaves his grandchildren, Jesse Sklarz of Ipswich, James Lampropoulos of Ipswich, Alexander Lampropoulos of Salisbury, Rachel Sklarz of Essex, Mikhala Reedy of Maui, Hawaii, Jacob Reedy of Ipswich, Emily Sklarz of Seattle,WA and Teddy Sklarz of Barrington, RI, and great-grandchildren Harper Lampropoulos and Benjamin Sklarz, both of Ipswich. Edward is also survived by his two brothers, David Sklarz and his wife Lisa of Newport, RI, and Joseph Sklarz and his wife Candy of Ipswich, three sisters, Carol Ann Collum of Ipswich, Alexandra “Sandy” Bayley and her husband Don of Cary, NC, and Nancy Lavoie of Ipswich. He was the brother of the late Eleanore Reilly, Barbara Martel and Cynthia Lemieux all of Ipswich. Edward will be lovingly remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, a passionate grandfather, great grandfather and big brother, and caring uncle to many nieces and nephews.

A private funeral service will be held Thursday in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home followed by interment in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Ipswich. A celebration of Edwards’s life including his many relatives and friends will be held when safe to do so in the future. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78  Liberty Street, Danvers MA 01923.
