Douglas L. Emery

Douglas L. Emery, 62, husband of Romie LeBlanc-Emery of Newburyport, died on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Anna Jaques Hospital of complications from esophageal cancer.

Born in Ipswich, he was the son of the late Carl and Florence (Scottin) Emery. He was raised in Ipswich where he played high school football, drove too fast and perfected his signature mustache. He went on to attend Laconia Technical College where he received his degree and learned a thing or two about engines. He went on to open his first marina so that he could stay close to the sea. He chose his path because he loved nothing more than the ocean.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his son, Ryan D. Emery of Ipswich, a daughter, Jennifer S. Mederos and her husband Rudy of Seattle; two grand-children Maximus and Leonidas Mederos; step-daughters, Jenee LeBlanc, Aimee Klee and her husband, Andy; step-granddaughter, Lillian Klee and a community of friends and family whose lives were made better having learned a thing or two from him. Everyone who remembers him is asked to celebrate his life in their own way.

A celebration of Dougís life will be held  Sunday 1 to 4 pm at the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich. At 3:30pm we will invite all his friends and family to share a memory, a story or an anecdote. This summer his family and friends will gather with a fleet of boats and return him to the back side of the beach. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 25 Stuart St. Boston,  MA  02116
