Dorothy E. (Jewett) Brigham

Dorothy E. Brigham, 85, wife of the late Ranald J. Brigham, Sr, formerly of Acton, Maine, died November 13, 2019 in the Seal Rock Healthcare Center in Saco Maine following her long illness. 

Born in Ipswich on May 7, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Douglas E. and Edna P. (Towne) Jewett. Raised in Ipswich, she was a graduate of local public schools. The Brighams married in 1953 and soon made their home and started a family in Hartford CT before relocating to upper High Street in Ipswich. In retirement they moved to Port Charlotte Florida and then in 1993 to Acton Maine. For many years she taught Adult Education classes in sewing to Ipswich residents, and was the owner and operator of the former Silver Thimble Quilt Shop on High Street. Later in life the Brighams enjoyed traveling the states in their RV. 

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, served as president of the Jewett Family of America Association, and has attended the First Church in Ipswich.

She is survived by her sons, Bruce Brigham and his wife Laurel of Acton, ME, Richard Brigham and his fiancé Ann Minges of FL, Ranald Brigham, Jr and his wife Amy of Freemont, NH, David Brigham and his wife Karen of Georgetown, Paul Brigham and his wife Wendy of Alfred, ME, and Elliot Brigham and his wife Susan of Sangerville, ME, eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Edward Jewett of Greenville, ME, and a sister, Judith Brenner of Wakefield, NH, and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Grenville Jewett, formerly of CA, Walter Jewett of Newburyport, Alfred Jewett of Rowley, and Natalie Bruce of CT. 

Visitation will be held 10 am to 12 noon Monday November 18 in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich followed by her funeral service at 12 noon. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Interment will be in the Main Street Cemetery, Rowley.
