Donald R. Rodger
Donald R. Rodger, 85, of Newmarch Street, Ipswich, died unexpectedly in
his home on July 18, 2018.
Born in Ipswich September 27, 1932, he was one of the five children of the
late Charles E. and Eva M. (Kellick) Rodger. Donald was a lifelong Ipswich
resident, a 1950 graduate of Ipswich High School. Entering the Army in
January 1953, he served as a machine gunner infantryman for two years in
Korea. Following his Honorable Discharge he returned to Ipswich where he
made his home on Newmarch Street. For many years he was employed as a
machine operator at Western Electric/AT&T/ Lucent Technologies in North
Andover from which he retired.
Donald was a regular participant in local veteran projects, whether it be
marching in the parades or placing flags in the cemeteries. He was a
longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Ipswich and Ipswich
V.F.W. Post #1093.
He is survived by a sister, Helene Souter and two nephews, Michael S.
Souter and James W. Souter, III all of Ipswich. He was the brother of the
late Charles E. Rodger, Howard M. Rodger and infant Charlotte Rodger, all
formerly of Ipswich.
A private funeral service with Military Honors will be held in the Cowles
Memorial Cemetery, Ipswich at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions in his name may be made to the United Methodist Church of
31 North Main St.,
01938, to help fund the repairs for their
recent ceiling collapse.
