Donald S. Lightbody, 82, husband of Irene S. (Tower) Lightbody of
Allen Lane, Ipswich, died Thursday, August 10, 2017 in the Kaplan
Family Hospice House, Danvers following his long illness.
Born in Beverly May 26, 1935 son of the late Oscar S. and Marion M.
(Squibb) Lightbody he was raised in Hamilton, a 1954 graduate of
Hamilton High School. Married in 1970 the Lightbodys made their home
and raised their family from their Allen Lane address. Mr. Lightbody
was employed as an a electro-optic engineer with EG&G Inc., Salem.
He retired in 1997 after thirty-six years of service. His favorite
past time was golfing with his friends at New Meadows Golf Course
in Topsfield.
He
was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Hamilton.
In
addition to his wife Irene he is survived by three daughters, Linda
Heitz and husband Peter of S. Hamilton, Deborah Tripp and husband
Ronald of Fort Myers, FL, and Gail Lightbody of Rowley, two sons,
Scott Landry and wife Lisa of Melrose, and Robert Butters and wife
Barbara of Salem; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; two
sisters, Arline Cormier of Hamilton and Janice O’Brien of Beverly
and many nieces. He is predeceased by daughter Stacey Messer
formerly of NH and grandson Patrick Collins formerly of Wareham.
Visiting hours will be held 4 to 7 pm Wednesday, August 16 in the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich. Family and
friends are respectfully welcomed. His funeral service will be held
at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his
name may be made to the Ipswich Humane Group, P.O. Box 873,
Ipswich, MA 01938.
