Donald F. Leet

Donald F. Leet, 85, of Caroline Avenue, Ipswich, died January 18, 2016 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.

Born, raised, and educated in Ipswich, he was one of three children of the late Clarence M. and Minnie E. (Spencer) Leet. Don was a 1949 graduate of Ipswich High School and following graduation worked for the A&P Tea Company in Beverly until entering the Army in 1952. He served with the Army 3rd Division seeing battle in Korea. Upon discharge, he returned to the A&P, working in Gloucester. Don will be remembered by many for his regular walks around town. Some of his many interests included astronomy, tropical fish, and especially listening to classical music.

He is survived by two nieces, Charlotte M. McLeod and her husband Martin of MD, and Sandra L. Coates and her husband Robert of Newbury, and several grandnephews, cousins, and extended family members. He was the brother of the late Charles R. and his wife the late Ruth E. (Prentiss) Leet formerly of Ipswich, Kenneth M. Leet formerly of Boston, and uncle of the late Toni E. Leet formerly of CA.

Family and friends are respectfully welcomed on Saturday, March 19 at 9 am for an hour of visitation at the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich, followed by a funeral service at 10 am. Interment with Army Honors will be in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Ipswich. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Ipswich Council on Aging, 25 Green Street, Ipswich, MA 01938 or to the charity of one's choice.
