Dexter Tindley, 97, husband of Katherine F. (Powers) Tindley of
Story Acres, Essex, died Monday July 13, 2009 in the Caldwell
Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, Ipswich, following his brief
illness.
Born in Beverly June 5, 1912, son of the late Walter J. and
Alice (Ober) Tindley, he was raised in Beverly and was a 1931
graduate of Beverly High School. Married in 1936, the Tindleys
made their home in Beverly while he was employed at United Shoe
Machine. For many years, they operated the Tindley’s Egg Farm on
County Road in Essex. Later he became a real estate broker,
owning Tindley Real Estate in Essex. Following his retirement in
1969, they moved to Bonita Springs, Florida, returning to Story
Acres ten years ago. .
As a youth he was an accomplished track athlete. He ran many
marathons as a student and later as a young adult. He enjoyed
his home vegetable garden and sailing and fishing in the local
waters.
He was a member of the Tyrian Masonic Lodge AF&AM of Gloucester.
In addition to his wife of seventy-three years he is survived by
a son, Dexter Tindley, Jr. and two daughters, Sheila Anderson
and Barbara J. Carter and her husband Dana all of Essex.
Private arrangements were under the direction of the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich. Memorial contributions
in his name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
