Cynthia Anne (Lackey)
Sheppard, 81, of East Street, Methuen, longtime of Ipswich, died
Wednesday, June 27, 2012 in the Lahey Medical Center, Burlington
following her long illness. She was the wife of the late Roland F.
Sheppard who died in 2005.
Born in Lexington, VA
on May 12, 1931, daughter of the late Cecil H. and Ada H. (Cullen)
Lackey, she was raised in Lexington, a graduate of local public
schools. Married in 1951 the Sheppards soon made their home on
Linebrook Road, Ipswich, where they raised their family and lived
until their move to Methuen in 2003. As a young woman she was
employed as a secretary in Washington, DC, as a secretary at the
former Ipswich Clinic and more recently at the Ipswich Veteranís
A loving mother,
Cynthia enjoyed spending time with her family, reading mysteries and
history, and treasured animals, especially her dog. She was an
enthusiastic fan at her sonís high school baseball and football
Mrs. Sheppard was a
member of Ipswich V.F.W. #1093 Auxiliary, Friends of the Ipswich
Library, NARFE (National Assoc. of Retired Federal Employees) and a
longtime member of the First Church in Ipswich.
She is survived by a
son, Roland F. Sheppard, Jr., a daughter, Cynthia Denise Schwartz
and her husband Arthur and a granddaughter, Arianne Schwartz all of
Methuen and several nephews and nieces. She was the sister of the
late William M. Lackey formerly of Alexandria, LA.
Her Funeral service
will be held 10 am Monday, July 2, 2012, in the First Church in
Ipswich, Meetinghouse Green, Ipswich, followed by interment in the
Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Ipswich. Family and friends are
respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours are Sunday 4 to 8 pm in the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich. Memorial

Library, Box 157, Ipswich, MA 01938.
