Charles Santiago, Jr


Charles Santiago, Jr, 78, of Charlotte Road, Ipswich, husband of Elizabeth “Betty” M. (Kiley) Santiago, died in his home on Monday, October 8, 2018 following his long illness.

Born in New York City March 12, 1940, the son of the late Charles and Pauline (Bazata) Santiago, he was raised in Brentwood, NY and was a 1958 graduate of Brentwood High School. Drafted in 1963, he went on to serve in Korea with the 7th Army Infantry Division. Married in 1965, the Santiagos made their home in Lynn, moving to his Ipswich home in 1971. Mr. Santiago was employed for over thirty years in management in the General Electric Submarine Turbine Division in Lynn. He was an avid bow hunter. In retirement he had more time to enjoy his family, antique car restoration, arts and music. He was a prolific painter in oils. Mr. Santiago was a longtime communicant of St. Joseph Church and Our Lady of Hope Parish.

In addition to his wife “Betty” of fifty-three years, he is survived by two sons, Charles J. Santiago and his wife Patricia of Hudson, NH, and Gregory D. Santiago of Ipswich, a daughter, Christine A. Santiago of Ipswich, four grandchildren, Allison, Brian, Caitlyn and Danielle Santiago, all of Hudson, NH, a sister, Charlene Gleason of Brentwood, NY and many cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Gregory Santiago formerly of Brentwood, NY.

His funeral service will be held 10 am Friday, October 12 in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich followed by interment with Military Honors in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours will be Thursday 4 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to The American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
