Catherine T. (O’Leary) Walsh
Catherine T. (O’Leary) Walsh, 102, of Bunker Hill Road, Ipswich, and
wife of the late Martin J. Walsh, died Saturday, February 7, 2015 in
the Masconomet Healthcare Center, Topsfield following her brief
illness.
Born
in Malden August 2, 1912, she was the daughter of the late James and
Mary (Burke) O’Leary. She was raised in Malden and graduated from
Cheverus High School at Sacred Heart Parish in Malden. She attended
Carney Hospital Nursing School earning an RN degree. She worked as
a registered nurse at Carney Hospital and Massachusetts General
Hospital. She married Martin Walsh in 1935, had three children and
lived in Boston until moving to Ipswich in 1965.
She is
survived by a son, Martin J. Walsh, Jr. and his wife Nancy of
Middleton, sixteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren,
one great-great grandson, a sister Emma Burns of Marblehead, and
many nephews and nieces. She was the mother of the late Marion
Sturdevant formerly of Brockton, Claire Piche of Littleton and
sister of the late James O’Leary of Malden, Marion McMahon
of Winchester, Anna Balboni of Somerville and Helen Hall of Malden.
Her
funeral will be held 8 am Saturday, February 14 from the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich followed by the
celebration of a Funeral Mass at 9 am in Our Lady of Hope Church, Pineswamp
Road, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed.
Visiting hours will be Friday 4 to 8 pm. Interment will be in
the Highland Cemetery, Ipswich. Memorial contributions in her name
may be made to Care Dimensions, a Hospice agency, 75 Sylvan Street,
Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
