Catherine (Galanis) Hatt

Catherine (Galanis) Hatt, 86 wife of the late Ralph G. Hatt, Jr. formerly of North Street, Topsfield, died Tuesday, February 16, 2016 in the Putnam Farm Healthcare Center, Danvers following her brief illness.

Born in Ipswich March 21, 1929, daughter of the late Costas and Sophia (Kyriakopoulos) Galanis, she was raised in Ipswich and was a 1947 graduate of Ipswich High School. She continued her education at a North Shore business school before going to work at the former GTE in Ipswich. She was later employed at their Lighting Center in Danvers and most recently Boston Street, Salem division from which she retired in 1986 as the secretary to the manager of New England Sales of  Consumer Products after thirty-two years of employment.

Catherine enjoyed many hours of working in her yard. She also enjoyed cooking many ethnic foods for her family and many friends.

She was a lifelong member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Ipswich and a member of the church’s Alpha Omega Society.

Catherine  is survived by a sister, Peffronia Galanis of Topsfield and many nephews and nieces. She was the sister of the late Louis, John, Christos, James, George and Peter Galanis, Aphrodite “Pat” Bialek, Alice Homans Ethel Fountas, Elaine Kokinacis, Bessie Lampson and Virginia Pechilis.

An hour of visitation will be held 10 to 11 am Friday, February 19 in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich followed by a funeral service at 11 am. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery, Ipswich. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her name may be made to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B102, Danvers, MA 01923.
