Carl W. Walker

Carl W. Walker, longtime of Beverly, passed away peacefully at home on July 2, 2020 at the age of 87, a few days short of his 88th birthday.  Carl loved to sing. He experienced joy as he joined in singing with those who visited him.  Marge, Carl’s wife of 62 years, joined in the rapturous singing of great hymns of the church. Furthermore, the congregation of First Presbyterian Church Northshore where he was a long-standing member was so blessed by his many solos during worship services.

Carl served as a deacon and provided consistent passionate leadership in ministering to those in need.  Whatever it took, no matter how inconvenient, he offered help to those going through a difficult time.  He also served as a Gideon helping to distribute Bibles throughout the North Shore of Boston and beyond.  Carl worked faithfully as manager of the print shop at Gordon College and then moved on to work in maintenance.

Marge and Carl first met at Tremont Temple in Boston.  Marge sat in the balcony and enjoyed a robust solo by Carl as part of the worship service.  After marriage, Carl and Marge served as a team ministering to those in need.  For the past several years Carl was confined at home for health reasons and was blessed by 24/7 healthcare.

Carl is survived by his wife Marge, his son David and wife Jen in New Jersey, his daughter Rebecca Fles and husband Jacob in Maine and their three children.

A burial service will be held at Hamilton Cemetery across from first Congregational Church on Monday, July 13 at 1 PM.  A memorial service in celebration of his life will follow at the Ipswich campus of First Presbyterian Church   at 2 PM. Arrangements by the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich. Gifts in memory of Carl can be sent to First Presbyterian North Shore and/or Gideons International.
