Burton Ivar Carlson

Burton Ivar Carlson of Ipswich, formerly a resident of South Windsor, Connecticut, the beloved husband of Dorothy (Ross) Carlson, passed away quietly July 25, 2012 while surrounded by generations of loving family.
He was eighty-three years old.

Born in Manchester, Connecticut November 3, 1928, son of the late Gustav I. and Esther (Erickson) Carlson, he was raised in Manchester, and was the President of his senior class at Manchester High School. He was a graduate of Upsala College, where met and subsequently married his beloved wife Dorothy of fifty-nine years.

Burt is survived by his wife Dorothy, his daughter Nancy Dziama of South Windsor, her husband Alex, and their three sons Matthew, Jason, and Kurt; his daughter Amy Frank of Ipswich, her husband William, and three daughters Molly, Colleen, and Leah; and his son Eric Carlson of South Burlington, Vermont. Burt is also survived by his sister Karen Davis and her husband, Al of South Windsor.
Burton was a retired Regional Director for Provident Life and Accident Insurance Company. He was most proud of his family, his service to his country as a Sergeant in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War, and the beach community where he was an Association member of the Chalker Beach Board of Governors of Old Saybrook, Connecticut.

He was passionate about soccer and spent many hours watching the World Cup.
Burt volunteered much of his time in aiding people suffering from depression and most recently transported seniors to and from medical appointments in his prized two-tone "Limited Edition" VW Bug with the top down and his hair blowing.  He especially will be missed by his two adoring cats, Beb and Sak.
A memorial service will be held aon Saturday August 18 at 11 AM at Faith Lutheran Church at 360 Main Street, Andover, MA. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Arrangements by the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich. In lieu of flowers, family members have requested that donations be made in his memory to the Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org).
Burt will be voting Republican in this Presidential election via absentee ballot.
