Blaine Quint Hebbel

Blaine Quint Hebbel, 67, husband of Maria (Traverso)
Hebbel, died peacefully on Saturday, December 18 2021 following his long
illness.
Born in Boston on May 6, 1954, Blaine was the son of
the late Carroll J. and Carmen (Quint) Hebbel of Ipswich. Blaine attended
Ipswich High School where he co-captained the first Ipswich High School
lacrosse team and helped take the basketball team to the championship game
at the Boston Garden. Blaine went on to play lacrosse at UMass Amherst and
continued his education at Burlington College.
Blaine's love of sports and his wonderful
organizational skills led him to found Ipswich Youth Lacrosse in 1999,
which has since grown and flourished. He went on to head Mass Bay Youth
Lacrosse which he led for a number of years. Blaine’s dedication to the
youth of Ipswich was also evident outside of sports. Under his leadership
as the chairman of the School Building Needs Committee, he was
instrumental in garnering support for the building of the new Middle-High
School.
Seldom without a book in hand, Blaine was a wealth of
knowledge. He enjoyed and appreciated a wide range of music, from
classical to reggae to punk. A lifelong poet, he loved the spoken word. To
celebrate the American Voice, he founded the Ring of Bone Press and
published numerous works of poetry featuring his own work as well as that
of local poets, writers and artists.
Blaine was a member of Occu-Poets, poets for economic
justice and was a strong supporter of social justice causes.
In addition to Maria, his wife of forty-four years,
he is survived by a daughter, Madeline R. Lennox and her husband Andrew of
Beverly, and a son, Alexander B. Hebbel and his partner Micaela Tepler
of Brunswick, ME. He was the devoted grandfather to Emma and Callum Lennox
of Beverly. He was the brother of Hollis C. Hebbel and her husband Juan
Perez of North Carolina and Bruce C. Hebbel and his wife Bianca of Marion. He is also survived by his nephew, Jonathan Perez and his wife Annie;
his niece Julia Perez and her husband Cameron Presley; and nephews Jacob
and Benjamin Hebbel. He also leaves his father-in-law, Edmund Traverso;
brother-in-law Anthony Traverso and his partner Timothie Biggs;
two great-nieces, Maria and Katie Perez; and one great-nephew,
James Presley.
A celebration of Blaine’s life is planned for the summer of 2022. Memorial
contributions in his name may be made to the Special Olympics
Massachusetts or Essex County Greenbelt. Arrangements are under the
direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich. OCCUPY
