Bertha M. (Leaman)
Robertson, 98, longtime resident of Old Bray Street, West
Gloucester, died Friday, May 16, 2014 in the Beverly Hospital
following her brief illness. She was the wife of the late William C.
Robertson who died in 1993.
Born in Gloucester
May 13, 1916, she was one of seven children of the late Edward B.
and Ellen (Herrick) Leaman. She was raised in Gloucester and was a
1934 graduate of Gloucester public schools. She went on to study
nursing at the Addison-Gilbert Hospital School of Nursing which she
had to leave during the hard days of the Depression to care for her
siblings. Married in 1941 the Robertsonís made their home and
raised their family in West Gloucester.
Mrs. Robertson loved
to dance, playing this out with the Gloucester Seniorettes. She was
line dancing until her mid 90ís. She was also an accomplished
painter in oils, many of which were auctioned off at the Sawyer Free
Library. She enjoyed home gardening, quilting, jogging and walking
for health until late in life.
She was a member of
the Rockport Art Assoc. and for many years was a member of the W.
Gloucester Trinitarian Congregational Church where she served as a

by two sons, Stanley W. Robertson and his wife Janet L. of Dracut
and Steven W. Robertson and his wife Janice C. of Haverhill; two
daughters, Sharon Trudel and her husband John of Byfield and Lucille
E. Lang and her husband Thomas W. of Groveland; eight grandchildren;
nineteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and two
sisters, Emily B. Strangman of Rowley and Mary E. Lee of Bristol,
NH. She was the sister of the late Harold B. Leaman formerly of W.
Gloucester, Stanley Leaman of Essex, Lucy Allen of W. Gloucester and
Nancy Boland of Ipswich.
Her funeral service
will be held 11 am Wednesday, May 21 in the Whittier-Porter Funeral
Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich followed by interment in the Beechbrook
Cemetery, West Gloucester. Family and friends are respectfully
