Antonia Crosby

Antonia “Toni” Crosby, 87, formerly of Ipswich, died peacefully on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.

Born on April 28, 1926 in Spokane WA to the late Edward and Hazel(Nieman) Crosby, she graduated from Holy Names Academy in 1944 and attended Saint Mary’s College, IN where she studied art and philosophy.  She settled in Ipswich in 1954 with her then husband James C. McManaway, Jr. She completed her B.A. and received her Masters in Education from BU in 1970. Ms Crosby taught English at the Ipswich High School between 1966 and 1984. She lived in Ipswich for over thirty years, moving to Georgetown and later to Brooksby Village in Peabody. She was an indefatigable reader and gardener.

She is survived by her children, Deborah White and her husband Peter, Sarah McManaway and her husband Nicholas Theodorou, and Michael McManaway and his wife Cheryl, and by her three grandchildren, Hobbs White and his wife Sonja Swanson, Evan White, and Alexus McManaway. She is also survived by her sister Katherine Ferguson and brothers, Howard and Edward Crosby. Her daughter Catherine “Tassy” McManaway predeceased her in 1968.

A service and reception will be held 3 pm Saturday March 15 at Ascension Memorial Church, 31 County Street, Ipswich. All are cordially welcomed.  In lieu of flowers donation may be made in her memory to the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society www.mrfrs.org or St. Francis House www.stfrancishouse.org.
