Anthony George

Anthony George, 86, of Washington Street, Ipswich, husband of the late Barbara George, died Tuesday September 19, 2017 in the Masconomet Healthcare Center, Topsfield following his brief illness.

Born in Boston July 5, 1931,he was the only child  of the late Constantine and Katherine (Geanakos) Georgakopoulos. Tony was raised in Ipswich, a graduate of Ipswich Public Schools. During the years of the Korean Conflict he served an enlistment in the U.S. Army.

He was employed as an ironworker, a member of the Ironworkers Local.

Tony was also a longtime member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Ipswich and was a fifty-six year Master Mason, member of the John T. Heard Lodge AF&AM in Ipswich.

He is survived by many cousins including first cousins Sam Geldis of OH and Georgia Mavrakis of CA.

His funeral  will be held 9 am Friday September 29 from the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich followed by a service at 10 am in the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 8 Lafayette Rd., Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Interment will be in the New Highland Cemetery, Ipswich. Visiting hours will be Thursday 5 to 8 pm with a service by the John T. Heard Lodge at 6 pm. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in his name to the Memorial Fund, Greek Orthodox Church of Ipswich, Box 6, Ipswich, MA 01938
