Anthony Stephen “Sonny” Aiello,
84, husband of the late Jeanne Catherine (Carroll) Aiello,
passed away peacefully on Monday, March 25, 2013 surrounded by his
family.
Born in Boston on April 23, 1928, he
was the son of the late Salvatore “Sammy White” Aiello and Florence
(Matulakas) Aiello. Anthony was raised
in the North End later moving to Gloucester where he attended
school graduating from the Gloucester High School. He was a talented
clarinet player in the school band receiving the Haskell Drill
Medal. Anthony was also a star basketball player and in 1946 was
recognized by the Boston Celtics. He and his late father “Sammy
White” were fisherman.
He and his late wife Jeanne raised
their family in Essex. During these years he was employed at the
Ipswich Dairy and later at Babco
Industry in Danvers from which he retired. In his retirement he
enjoyed clamming part time and spending time with his son Stephen,
daughters and his grandchildren. In his younger years, he enjoyed
coaching his three sons in Little League and dancing with his wife
Jeanne. Anthony was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church
in Essex and the Essex Men’s Bowling League.
He is survived by his son Stephen and
wife Susan of Essex; his daughters Catherine Woodman, Cynthia Tabor
and her husband Theodore, Theresa Gauthier and her husband Gerald,
all of Ipswich; his grandchildren Rachel Aiello-Goncalves
and her husband Ramon, Brittnie Aiello
and her husband Kurt, Hillarie Aiello and Anthony Keaton, Beau and
Jourdan Gauthier, and Zachary Tabor; his
great grandchildren River, Analise and
Christian. He was predeceased by his second wife Gwendolyn (Nunes)
Aiello; his two sons David and Michael; a granddaughter Jeanne
Catherine Tabor and son-in-law Larry D. Woodman Jr.

His funeral service will be held 11am
Thursday, March 28 in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High
Street, Ipswich followed by interment in the Spring Street Cemetery,
Essex. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. In lieu of
flowers memorial contributions in his name may be made to the
American Heart Association, 20 Speen
Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
