Alice (Galanis) Homans, 90, longtime resident of Warren
Street, Ipswich and wife of the late Bryce W. Homans, died
Sunday, March 9, 2014 in the Essex Park Rehabilitation and
Nursing Center, Beverly following a long illness.
Born in Ipswich March 14, 1923, she was the daughter of the late
Costos and Sophia (Kyriacopoulos) Galanis. She was a lifelong
Ipswich resident, a member of the Ipswich High School Class of
1942 and a student at the former Burdett College. For ten years
she was employed in the personnel department at Sylvania in
Ipswich.
Mrs. Homans was a member of the Mother of Twins Club and was
a lifelong member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek
Orthodox Church of Ipswich.
She was an active volunteer at the Ipswich United Methodist
Church’s food pantry, and at their annual Strawberry and Apple
Festivals, and she and her late husband were members of the
church’s Couples Club. She also enjoyed being in her home,
knitting, sewing and playing puzzles.
She is survived by a son, Richard B. Homans and his wife Sherri
of Ipswich; two daughters, Susan H. Lemieux and her husband
Theodore and Sandra H. Scahill and her husband Russell all of
Ipswich; six grandchildren, Robert Lemieux of Ipswich, Peter
Lemieux of Ipswich, Russell Scahill of Topsfield, Alisson
Donnelly of Barre, VT, Andrews Homans of Ipswich and Jack Homans
of Ipswich; and three sisters, Aphrodite Bialek of Ipswich,
Catherine Hatt of Danvers and Peffronia Galanis of Topsfield
and many nephews and nieces. She was the great grandmother of
the late infant Peter S. Lemieux, Jr., and was also predeceased
by four sisters and six brothers.
Visiting hours will be Tuesday 4 to 8 pm in the Whittier-Porter
Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich. Family and friends are
respectfully welcomed. Her funeral service will be private. In
lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her name may be made
to Care Dimensions, Suite B-102, 75 Sylvan Street, Danvers, MA
01923.
