Alexander A. Sweenie, Jr

Alexander A. Sweenie, Jr, 91, husband of Lillian M. (Turner) Sweenie of Masconomet Road, Ipswich, died Monday May 14, 2012, in his home following his long illness.

Born in Gateshead, England December 30, 1920, son of the late Alexander and Sarah (Thompson) Sweenie, he emmigrated to New York City at the age of seven with his parents. His family moved to Ipswich when he was fourteen, and lived on Labor-in-Vain Road. He was a 1939 graduate of Ipswich High School and received a BS in Accounting from Northeastern University. Mr. Sweenie was employed as an auditor for Defense Contract Audit Agency of Boston, from which he retired in 1995.

He was a member of the John T. Heard Masonic Lodge, AF & AM of Ipswich and the Ascension Memorial Church where he served as a Senior Warden.

In addition to his wife of sixty-one years, he is survived by his son David  Sweenie. He was the brother of the late George Sweenie, formerly of Nashua, NH.

His funeral service will be held 10:30 am Thursday, May 17, graveside in the New Highland Cemetery, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Arrangements are by the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to Beacon Hospice, Inc, 529 Main Street, Suite 101, Charlestown, MA 02129.
