Albert Anthony
Ventresca, 88, husband of Olive (Wright) Ventresca, passed away at home in
Ipswich on February 2, 2020.
Born in Chelsea June 9,
1931, he was the son of the late Anthony and Lillian (Malio) Ventresca,
and raised in Revere. He graduated from Revere High School and went on to
graduate from Norwich University in Vermont with a Bachelor’s degree in
Economics. He later obtained a Master’s degree in Education and also
studied Electronics.
Al served as a 1st
Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, as a tank commander in Germany during the
Korean War. Following his military service he worked at Stop & Shop, and
eventually became a mathematics teacher in Revere and Newburyport, and
retired from Whittier Vocational Technical High School. In later years he
worked in electronics repair for Bell & Howell.
Al loved cars, both driving
them and fixing them. He also loved reading and talking with his family
and friends. He especially loved playing with his grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
In addition to his beloved
wife of sixty-eight years, he was the devoted father of Kathy (Brennan)
Somadelis and her husband Michael of Oakton, VA, Donna Gilbreth and her
husband Roy of Franklin, NH, Albert Ventresca II of Maui, HA, and Marie
Mountain of Raymond, NH. He is also survived by his grandchildren
Nicholas, Melissa, Katie, Danielle, Robert, Daniel, and Ryan, and six
great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be
held Saturday May 2 at 11am with Military Honors in the Cowles Memorial
Cemetery, Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Funeral arrangements are under the
direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home in Ipswich.
